Railway Modellers at the 2026 exhibition

On the 5th of September 2026 Aston Clinton u3a held its 20th anniversary at the Clock Tower school. When the exhibition was agreed at the end of 2025 the Railway Modellers decided to make a special layout for the exhibition. Given that we only meet once a month (and at that time we met in members' homes) it was decided to split the layout into several parts which could be made by members in their homes. Geoff purchased twelve small laser cut boxes each about 12 inches by 8 inches which were assembled by several members. A jig was made so that bolts holding the boxes together were at a standard spacing. The bolts were to be used to transfer the track current from one box to the next. All the boxes were bolted together and the track laid, making sure that the track was firmly fixed at the joints. At this point, and given that several members didn't feel they had adequate experience, it was eventually decided to make the layout in 6 parts. The track was then cut at selected joints and the boxes given to the six group members who wanted to provide the scenery (a basic scenery plan had already been decided).
